چکیده

Introduction: Myopia or short sightedness, is that form of refractive error wherein parallel rays of light come to a focus in front of the sentient layer of the retina when the eye is at rest; the eye is thus relatively too large, and the condition is the opposite to that of hypermetropia. Aims and objectives of the research were to find out whether there is a correlation between axial length, intraocular pressure and central corneal thickness in myopic eye and to find out whether the degree of myopia can be correlated with axial length, intraocular pressure and central corneal thickness in myopic eye. Material and Methods: A prospective study was conducted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Assam for 1 year. Total of 200 eyes of 100 myopic patients attending the Outpatient department of Ophthalmology were included in the study. Result: Overall mean (SD) myopic refractive error was found to be -4.41±3.23D with range of -1.00 D to -17.00 D. The overall mean axial length was 24.06±1.74 mm. The overall mean intra ocular pressure in the patient was found to be 15.50±2.00 mm of Hg with range of 12-20 mm Hg. The overall mean (SD) central corneal thickness in myopic eyes was found to be 0.509±0.026 mm. Conclusion: The effect of myopia on the axial length, the intraocular pressure and the corneal thickness are interrelated and are important determinants of myopia.

Assessment of corneal biomechanical properties and intraocular pressure with the Ocular Response Analyzer in childhood myopia.

BACKGROUND/AIMS The authors estimated the association between corneal biomechanical properties and axial length in myopic children and verified the relationship between axial length and intraocular pressure (IOP). METHODS This cross-sectional study included 126 eyes of 63 children, aged 12.02+/-3.19 years. Corneal hysteresis (CH), corneal resistance factor (CRF), central corneal thickness (CC...

Correlation of central corneal thickness and axial length to the optic disc and peripapillary atrophy among healthy individuals, glaucoma and ocular hypertension patients

PURPOSE Clinical observational study for the correlation between the central corneal thickness (CCT), axial length (AXL), optic disc area (D), cupping area (C) and peripapillary atrophy (PPA), in healthy eyes (group A), eyes with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) (group B) and eyes with ocular hypertension (OH) (group C), in order to assess the possible contribution of this correlation to the ...

The correlation between IOP measurement, central corneal thickness and corneal curvature.

In a prospective study we measured the intraocular pressure (IOP), the central corneal thickness (CCT) and the central corneal curvature in 172 myopic eyes before and after LASIK treatment. We find a significant decrease in intraocular pressure. Statistical evaluation reveals a linear correlation between the IOP decrease and the amount of stromal ablation. The IOP and corneal curvature are meas...

Purpose. To determine the corneal biomechanical properties by using the Ocular Response Analyzer™ and to investigate potential factors associated with the corneal biomechanics in healthy myopic subjects. Methods. 135 eyes from 135 healthy myopic subjects were included in this cross-sectional observational study. Cornea hysteresis (CH), corneal resistance factor (CRF), cornea-compensated intraoc...

Factors related to axial length elongation and myopia progression in orthokeratology practice

PURPOSE To investigate which baseline factors are predictive for axial length growth over an average period of 2.5 years in a group of children wearing orthokeratology (OK) contact lenses. METHODS In this retrospective study, the clinical records of 249 new OK wearers between January 2012 and December 2013 from the contact lens clinic at the Eye and ENT Hospital of Fudan University were revie...
